In Singapore you can catch a taxi/cab anywhere at anytime from at very affordable prices. Besides from taxi stands and hotels, you may hail them on the roads if there is no stand nearby and no disruption to traffic is caused.
The four main taxi operators are CityCab (yellow),
Comfort (Blue), SMRT (White) and Yellow-Top (Black with yellow top).
All taxis fare charge according to meter, The flagdown rate starts at $2.50 for the first 1 km (0.6 mile), and it's 10 cents for every 210 m thereafter (up to 10 km) and then 10 cents for every 175 m (after 10 km) thereafter.
There are additional charges applicable such as below:
- Midnight from 11.30 pm to 6.00 am daily
- Peak hours: 7.00am - 9.30 am and
- Public Holiday. From 6.00 pm on the eve to 12 midnight of the following public holidays
- Central business district (CBD)
- Location such like airport, Singapore expo
- Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)
- Advance booking or dial-a-cab services
The surcharges list is always placed at the side of the door. Please refer to it if you have any queries. Payment can be made using cash/credit cards.
If you see any taxi displaying a red sign on its dashboard, the driver is changing shift and will only pick up customers on the way towards his destination.
